High Heels Can Look Good But Not Feel Good

July 26, 2021

Many women love to wear high-heeled shoes as often as possible. There are also lots of women who must wear them, whether it be to match their business attire or for a special occasion.

But in the spirit of that noted question, “What price beauty?” it’s possible that those ladies will develop foot problems. When it feels as if they’re standing on a pebble, or the balls of their feet experience acute pain, or their toes tingle or are numb, they could have a foot ailment called Morton’s neuroma. High-heeled shoes are this condition’s main cause, with the outcome being pressure on or injury to one of the nerves that extend to the toes.

At the office of Taub Podiatry, our team of highly trained and skilled podiatrists is committed to providing patients with an elevated level of care. We are superbly equipped to diagnose and remedy Morton’s neuroma, with the goal of our relieving patients’ pain and restoring their feet to healthy states.

Shoes with tall heels or that don’t fit well aren’t the only conditions that cause Morton’s neuroma. Other origins of Morton’s neuroma are partaking in jogging, running and other major-force athletics that involve constant foot pressure and trauma, as well as irregularities such as bunions, hammertoes, high arches or flat feet.

Alleviating Morton’s neuroma rarely involves an invasive procedure. Rather, it can be relieved by wearing wider shoes with low heels. Custom shoe inserts and pads are other aids that assist in allaying inflammation by elevating and parting the bones, which alleviates pressure on the nerve. Injections of corticosteroids can bring relief by assist in the reduction of the distension and irritation of the nerve. If these fundamental therapies don’t bring enough relief, then surgery may have to be considered.

You use your feet every day, throughout the day. Taub Podiatry knows how important it is to provide excellent foot care to all of our patients.
